Intentions
Any good adventure – at least those initiated by practical, 40-something adults – should start with an intention. So as we set off for this Schell Family Adventure – moving to Mexico for “a year…” – we have been considering our intentions.
… to experience authentic cultural immersion?
… to deepen our knowledge of and fluency in Spanish?
… to spend more time in our family unit?
… to better understand ourselves??
Or – to eat 1,000 tacos?
For us, it’s all of these things, and perhaps none more important than the other. Yes, including the tacos.
As we navigate this preparation phase, where our days are filled with not just our everyday grind of work, kids, and camp, but also visa applications, packing, and Spanish practice, I’m trying to hold these intentions top of mind. The “why” can act not only as a north star guiding our path forward, but also as a reminder of how Eric and I should be walking this path – a path that we’ve chosen for ourselves and our family. We’re so lucky to be in a position that we could choose to make this move. So we walk it with gratitude. Because yes, there will be learning, discomfort, and growth. But there should also be plenty of space for joy, laughter, and – yes – tacos.
